January Newsletter

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable winter break.

On January 20, 2020, we sent an email to all members in regards to the 2020-2021 calendar. Unfortunately, we have not been able to come to an agreement on the calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. On January 14, 2020, Acting Superintendent, Rohan Arul-pragasam, presented a recommended calendar to the Board of Education. This proposed calendar only included a one week spring break, no reporting and assessment days, and the reduction of 5 minutes to elementary recess.

The CTA released officers met with the district three times to discuss the 2020/2021 calendar. It was clear the district’s intention was to implement a one week spring break. We understand the overwhelming support of teachers for the two week spring break.

The district will be seeking community feedback on the proposed calendar prior to submitting the final calendar to the Ministry in March.

The Calendar settlement agreement (http://chilliwackteachers.com.c11.previewyoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/settlement-agreement.pdf) allows both parties to submit a calendar proposal to the arbitrator for consideration. The arbitrator will make a final decision on which of the two proposals will be implemented.
