Student Assessment/Evaluation Days

A settlement agreement on the Calendar was reached after one day of arbitration. Part of the settlement agreement included meetings with the CTA and school district to find a way to include some of the D.22 days for Student Assessment/Evaluation and Parent/Teacher Consultation. The Local and the district have agreed to one full day for Student Assessment/Evaluation (reporting), three Early Dismissal Days for Elementary and Middle Schools, and four Early Dismissal Days for Secondary Schools. The scheduling of these dates was determined by school district administration in consultation with school Principals and Vice Principals. The CTA advocated for the full day to be in the first term and for the final early dismissal day to be in late May/early June. The district agreed to place the full day in first term, but decided where to place it, but did not agree with the CTA for the final early dismissal.

Here are the guidelines that are in place for the Student Assessment/Evaluation and Parent/Teacher Consultation Days:

• The full day for student assessment/evaluation and parent/teacher consultation will be scheduled on Friday, November 1st, 2019.
• The expectation for the full day for student assessment/evaluation and parent/teacher consultation will include a brief staff meeting, not to exceed thirty (30) minutes, at the beginning of the day for teachers to share their working plans with the school team as well as the principal and vice-principals at the school. It is expected that all staff will remain on the premise during the full day.
• Early dismissals can be scheduled the day after parent-teacher meetings. Schools will have the flexibility to schedule parent-teacher meetings after school the day before the early dismissal. Staff will have the flexibility to take the time in-lieu on the next day during the early dismissal time.
• Early dismissals can be scheduled on the day of parent-teacher meetings. In these cases, the expectation is that all staff will remain on the premise during the early dismissal day.
